Choice #1-Summer Reading Program(K-5)

Want to win a FREE book? Or maybe some other great prizes? Prince William County Library’s Summer Reading Program begins June 15th. You can watch a short video on the program and enroll online. Everything is virtual. Once you complete 10 activities on an online Bingo card, you get a FREE book! There will be some great virtual programs, as well this summer. Check it out!

Choice #2-NASA Kids’ Club and NASA Space Place(K-5)

Are you interested in astronauts and space? The NASA Kids’ Club and NASA Space Place are designed for students to learn more about the space program through games, activities, and puzzles. See a space picture show, drive a Mars’ Rover, learn about the International Space Station and more!

Choice #3-Virtual Field Trip Tour of Mount Vernon (K-5)

Our first President, George Washington, made his home at Mount Vernon, Virginia. Visit his home through a virtual tour of the mansion and estate.

Choice #4-National Aquarium Live Webcams(K-5)

With summertime coming up, many people will be thinking about the beach! Can’t visit the beach? Check out these live webcams from the National Aquarium in Baltimore. How many different fish can you see?

Choice #1-Try out a Podcast story(K-5)

Podcasts are an awesome free way to listen to some great stories and find out information about topics.PRX has wonderful podcasts you can listen to anywhere. My favorite is Six Minutes, but check outthe Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian, Pants on Fire, Earth Rangers, and more.There is something for everyone!

Choice #2- Virtual Field Trip to Smithsonian Natural History Museum(K-5)

Do you like Dinosaurs?Animals?Ancient Egypt? Rocks and Minerals? Our local Natural History museumat the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. may be closed but you can visit it on a virtual field trip. See your favorite exhibitsor see something new!

Choice #3-Culture Grams(3-5)

Curious about a foreign country? Want to learn more aboutdifferent cultures and traditions? Do you want to learn more about the United States? Culture Gramshas awesome information. You will need to logon to use it- please email me or your teacher for the user name/password.

Choice #4-Coding with Tynker (K-5)

Do you loveMinecraft? Barbies? Hot Wheels?Monster High? Video Games? How about computer games? With Tynker, you can learn how tocodewith some of your favorites!Access online is free, including premium content.

Choice #5-Toy Theater(K-2)

Toy Theaterhas free games and activities in Reading, Math,Art, and Music. There are games and puzzles as well.I built Lego-type creations with blocks,created cool designs and patterns, and played some alphabet games.There are so many to try!

Do you love learning about animals? Check out Switch Zoo! You can create new animals and play animal-related games.

Choice #5-Beginning Readers (K-2)

Practicing your reading skills as an early reader can be tough at home.Most people don’t have books similar to the ones used in our school guided reading groups.Unite for Literacy has free books for beginning and early readers in English and Spanish. They are also voice only in 46 languages! No subscription or logon required.

Choice #1- Outdoor reading and chalk drawings (K-5)

Now that the weather is nice, enjoy some time outside reading!  After you finish your book, use sidewalk chalk and draw your favorite scenes from the story or a new ending to the book.  Take a picture of your drawings and send them to me to post on the library’s Facebook page.

Choice #2- Mo Willems (K-5)

Mo Willems is one of our favorite authors at Sinclair!

Are you feeling antsy at home?  Get creative and use materials that you already have at home to complete one or more of these really great STEM challenges!  If you don’t have the exact materials listed, just use something similar. I’d love to see some photos of your creations!

Choice #4- Field Trip to the Zoo (K-5)

The zoo may be closed, but you can still visit it and check in on the animals.  See animals like the Giant Panda or Elephant live on the webcams.  The zoo has activities as well to go along with their webcams.

Our students LOVE the Who Is/Who Was books in our library.  Check out the related site!  There are interactive games and free printables.  If you have Netflix, be sure to check out the Who Was Show!

Choice #1- Read a Book (K-5) 

Read your library book or any book you have in your house.   

Once you are done reading, try to follow these steps to create an origami bookmark! 

Choice #2- Tumblebooks (K-5) 

TumbleBooks has an extensive collection of animated storybooks, videos, and games.  TumbleBooks takes existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book. You can read it, or have it read to you.

Choice #3- Digital Escape Rooms (2-5) 

A digital escape uses the same concept of solving a series of clues to unlock locks as a physical escape room does. However, with a digital escape, all that is necessary is a device connected to the Internet.  Try out one of the digital escape rooms below.  Both were made by very creative librarians! 

Choice #4- Interland (3-5) 

Interland is an interactive game created by Google which teaches about digital citizenship.  Students are invited to play their way to Internet Awesome in a quest to deny hackers, sink phishers, one-up cyberbullies, outsmart oversharers and become safe, confident explorers of the online world.  

Choice #5- Read and Ebook at Capstone Interactive Book (K-5) 

The perfect eBook is waiting for you! Choose from different picture, fiction, or nonfiction books.  There are also more than 100 graphic novels.  You will even find some Sinclair favorites including Sophia Martinez, Sports Illustrated, and Phobia.  I suggest using the “visual search” feature.  Happy reading!

Choice #1- Read a book! (K-5) 

Read any book you have in your house.   

Consider reading a book to a relative or friend using video chat!  I know it would brighten that person’s day. 🌞 

Choice #2- World Book Online  

(K-5) 

World Book Kids is a reference website for elementary students. The site features articles, videos, comparison tools, and a wealth of engaging games and activities.  There are also ebooks, scripts for plays, science experiments and much more to enjoy! 

  • Early Learning is great for K/1. 

  • World Book Kids is perfect for 1st-4th. 

  • World Book Student is written at a 5th grade level and is a great challenge for our upper elementary students.

Choice #3- April Task Cards (K-5) 

These task cards are perfect for some indoor or outdoor fun!  Students can choose whichever tasks they want to complete and work independently or with a family member.  You can use any material you have on hand-- Legos, Play-Doh, snap cubes, etc.  There are suggestions on the last page.  Email me a picture of your completed project!  I would love to see it! 

Choice #4- Code.org 

(K-2, 3-5) 

Code.org is a website with so many different activities that all of our students from K-5 can use to practice the basics of coding. 

I suggest K-2 start with Course A or Course B. 

3rd – 5th  grade are familiar with this site and can likely jump in with Course C or D.

Choice #5- Storyline 

(K-5) 

Enjoy a story being read by a celebrity.  Some of my favorite books are available on this site.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Choice #1- Reading (K-5)

      Calling/video chatting a friend or family member to surprise them with a story

      Read to a pet (don’t be offended if your pet doesn’t seem too interested!)

      Is  it a beautiful day?  Take your book outside and read while getting some fresh air.

Scholastic has released a series of really interesting at-home lessons and activities.  They are sorted by grade level and week.  Bookflix is usually a paid subscription, but it is temporarily free to support all of our students at home (just choose your grade then follow the instructions)
