Hello! I am Mrs. Layton. I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree from Knox college, a small liberal arts college in Illinois. This is my 29th year in the classroom. I taught for 13 years in Texas and 16 years at Sinclair. I love coming to work every school to teach the best fourth  grade students in the world. I also work with some of the greatest educators there are.

My husband and I have three children. Our oldest resides in Colorado with his wife. Our oldest daughter lives in Hawaii with her husband and three children. Our youngest daughter is home with us after graduating from Virginia Tech and is teaching third grade at our school.

On weekends, my husband and I enjoy walking and running with our dogs. I share the love for running by coaching the Girls on the Run team at Sinclair. Girls on the Run has a fall and a spring season. In all total, I have coached 20 seasons this coming spring.

What can I do to review or keep busy?
There are many great sites in your Clever account that you can access to review material we have already covered in class.  If you need help getting into your Clever please send me an email at laytonca@pwcs.edu or send me a Dojo message.

What can I access in my Clever account?
In math we have been learning decimals and how decimals and fractions are related. The students know how to read, write and say numbers with decimals. We were working on changing decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals. Please email of dojo message if you need help. Khan academy is a great resource.
IXL- I have added the IXL review skills document in the Files and Documents tab to the left.
Khan Academy- once you are in you will have to activate your account.  Each of you already has one.  I have added the identifying decimals skills that you can review, or choose something else that would you like to review.
Dreambox- review any skills we have already done.  I suggest trying out some fractions and geometry practice!

In reading we have been reading poems and learning about figurative language.
IXL- again I have added the IXL review skills document.
Myon- there are tons of books, news, and videos that you can access.  Read a book and click on the journal tab to write a summary of what you read.  I can then go in and read your thoughts on the books.
World Book Online- An encyclopedia for the children to explore nonfiction topics. The website will read information to the students and allows many ways for the children to manipulate the information.
Benchmark- Another reading resource that the children have at their finger tips. It also has a large selection of books at different levels that the children can read or have the program read it to them.

VA Studies:
SOLPass- You can complete any review activities up to Reconstruction.  Most of you should have taken your VA Studies books home so you can reference that, or there are study guides for each of the units on SOLPass.  Send me a message if you forget how to get in.
BrainPop- everyone has access right now.  You can watch any of the videos we have already watched in class and complete the quizzes if you would like.
Quizlet- *not in your Clever* You can go to https://quizlet.com/taylorkl1 and interact with any of the sets that Mrs. Taylor has already created. You can also interact with sets I have made at https://quizlet.com/laytonca. Both accounts have more than just VA studies in them.
VA Trekkers- *Also not in Clever*  https://virginiatrekkers.com/ You can travel around Virginia with the Trekkers and learn more about some of the things we have already talked about.

We are nearing the end of our learning unit on force and motion. We learned about the types of forces that causes an object to move. We discussed how acceleration can affect an object by speeding it up, slowing it down, or changing the object's direction. Work with force and motion can continue be accessing BrainPop.com and or SOLPass.org

Creative Fun:
There are several resources in your Clever account that we have not had time to explore. Now is the perfect time to try out Wixie . I would love to check on any products that you produce and see how creative you are!
