Week of January 16-20th
This is a short week, but busy week for the students. In writing, we are going to be reviewing homophones and contractions. We will be starting possessive nouns and prefixes. In reading, we are focusing on comparing and contrasting characters, settings, and plots of various of fiction genres. As your child is reading at home some comprehension questions to ask during this unit are: Who are your characters? What can you tell me about them? Compare and contrast your favorite 2 characters. What is the setting of the story? Has the setting changed in the middle or end of the story? What is the plot so far? In math, we will be taking Part A of our geometry and measurement unit on Wednesday and Part B on Thursday. Please utilize the study guide that was sent home in both English and Spanish last week. In Social Studies, we are finishing up our economics unit. The test will be on Monday January 23rd.
This month our ESOL students will be taking their WIDA test for next year to help us figure out how to best help them. We will also be taking our mid year MAPS test for math to the see areas of growth and where we need to focus for each student.
There will be no reading log sent home, as this is such a short week. However, please continue to have your child read nightly at least 20 minutes. This is helping to build their stamina and fill in the January Reading Calendar.
Thank you for all you do at home!
