Welcome to Mrs. Saulsbury's First Grade!
As we begin the 3rd Quarter of the school year, I am so proud of all the students' hard work and progress in all areas. We will continue to work hard! I am sending home a list of frequently used words in reading and writing. Please practice recognizing and writing these words with your child. You can make a game by writing them on index cards and play memory match or "Go Fish." Students may also build the words with magnetic letters. In Math, we are working on addition and subtraction facts to 18. Please practice these facts with your child. If needed, provide small objects for your child to solve the equations at first.
We are having a school Science Fair in March! Please see the flyer that was sent home. I hope that we will have our class represented at this event. Let me know if you need an idea for a science project.
Thank you for your support!
Folders and Homework:
Students will bring home their folder and homework journal each day. Please check the folder and empty all papers. Be sure to read through the papers with your child because this is an excellent way to talk about the school day and monitor progress. Homework for the week is due on Friday. Your child may do one activity a night or do a couple depending on your schedule. Take Home Book bags will be sent home with your child a few times a week. This bag contains the book that your child is reading during Guided Reading. Be sure to have your child read their book to you and give them lots of praise. Homework is meant to be a quick activity and should be combined with reading with your child every evening. Thank you for your support!
